The ROBOT Wolverine is Returning To Marvel Comics

The robotic version of Wolverine is getting his own miniseries from Marvel Comics. On Monday, it was announced (via CBR.com) that the robot doppleganger version of Wolvie will be getting a two-part iWolverine series from Larry Hama (G.I. Joe) and Roland Boschi (Weapon X) that will spin-off from the current Iron Man 2020 arc.

This version of Wolverine first appeared in Wolverine #37 (1991) as a robotic copy of the popular X-Men hero build by Donald Pierce and the Ravagers. He goes by the name Albert, after Albert Einstein and was originally designed to help lure Wolverine into a deadly trap along with his robotic ally Elsie-Dee. In Iron Man 2020, he’s a member of the A.I. Army, who are a terrorist-like group fighting against oppression from humans.

Hama, who co-created the character with Marc Silverstri during his 90s run on Wolverine, told CBR he’s excited to see Albert and Elsie Dee return to Marvel Comics.

I’m super ramped to be returning to two of my favorite supporting characters from my ’90s Wolverine run. Elsie Dee and Albert started out as an odd Bizarro version of Wolvy and Jube, but they quickly developed lives of their own, and their dialog was gosh-darn fun to write. Exhilarating to be able to dip into this particular font again, and I’m having a blast.

On the cover for iWolverine, Albert can be seen with his claws out slicing through a handful of enemies. Two of the villains look like familiar faces - Daken and Sabretooth - but that could just be a coincidence. Regardless, Albert isn’t messing around. With robotic features including a metal arm and a faceplate, this version of Wolverine is set to a lot of killing. The preview teases that Arno Stark’s crusade continues against A.I. and that Albert will go to Madripoor to look for Elsie Dee to make sure she’s safe. When he gets to the mutant homeland, he’s met with plenty of resistance.
