Stream Hayley Willaims - “Simmer”

Since late last year, Paramore’s Hayley Williams has been teasing an upcoming solo project. Cryptic clues and guerrilla marketing — much fueled by the singer’s own social media accounts —  have slowly hinted at a project called Petals for Armor. Today, the flower has fully unfolded, as Williams’ has unveiled her debut single, “Simmer”.

Though Williams has made clear that she’s “going to call [Petals for Armor] my own,” “Simmer” came together with the help of some familiar friends. The track was written alongside Paramore bassist Joey Howard and guitarist Taylor York, with the latter also handling production duties.

The song comes with a Warren Fu-directed music video, and as Williams has been teasing with various clips, it has a pretty creepy vibe. With shots of light cutting through dark woods and a hazy moon, it’s a pop punk horror film that will grip fans as much as the wait for it did. Watch it below.

No further details on Petals for Armors have been revealed. Whatever comes next, it’s good to have Williams (and, apparently, a few of her bandmates) back for the first time since Paramore’s 2017 LP After Laughter — one of our favorite pop albums of the decade.
