Prince Charles visited a Gloucestershire farm this week to hear all about Waitrose eggs

HRH The Prince of Wales visited a Gloucestershire farm earlier this week.

The farm, which is based in Arlingham, is owned by Andrew Martin and has supplied organic eggs for the Waitrose Duchy Organic range for a dozen years through Waitrose supplier Stonegate.

Waitrose Duchy Organic was originally founded as Duchy Originals by The Prince of Wales to promote organic farming and food production while generating funds for The Prince’s Charitable Fund - which receives donations each year from the sales of Waitrose Duchy Organic products.

During the visit, Prince Charles met with farm owner, Andrew Martin along with Andrew’s wife Lucy and their children.

Andrew said: “I was so proud and happy to show The Prince of Wales our farm and demonstrate the care and attention we put into producing Waitrose Duchy Organic eggs.”

The farm owners showed Prince Charles around the farm including two of the chicken sheds and fields where the hens roam as well as meeting egg collectors.

While on the farm, The Prince of Wales visited the egg packing shed watching the lorry take the eggs to the Stonegate distribution centre.

Rob Hues, Agriculture Manager, Waitrose & Partners, said: “Demand for organic eggs continues to rise reflecting shoppers increasing interest in where their food comes from. Our Waitrose Duchy Organic eggs are laid by our exclusive British Blacktail hens and raised to Soil Association organic standards enjoying organic food and plenty of time for outdoor roaming and foraging which our hens love.”

And before he left, Prince Charles stopped for a cup of tea in the farmhouse with Martin’s family and members of the Watirose & Partners and Stonegate teams.
