Overwatch Power Rankings 2020 - #17 Chengdu Hunters

The Chengdu Hunters come into this season primarily unchanged except the most recent additions of three new players.

The Hunters struggled with stability in the 2019 season of the Overwatch League, taking time to adjust to enemy teams. Tank player Ameng failed to find footing in the GOATS meta and his Wrecking Ball skills weren’t enough to thrive in the new world of 2-2-2 role lock. The Pharah-Mercy duo of Hu “Jinmu” Yi and Li “Yveltal” Xianyao were aggressive in the last stage of the season and flew even higher in the Overwatch World Cup for Team China last year.

The Chengdu Hunter acquired support players Chengzhi “Molly” He and Jingyi “Lengsa” Chen from China Contenders team LGE. Huya to fill the hitscan-type support role that comes with Zenyatta and Ana. The two support players fared well in Contenders China during the end half of the year making it to The Gauntlet only to leave the tournament without a single map win.

A major issue with the Hunters last season was an inability to adapt successfully to the enemy team within a given period. For weeks the Chengdu Hunters struggled against top teams in GOATS and throughout the season rose to the edge of top 10 only to lose their stride. Consistency for the Chengdu Hunters has never been a strong suit, but the current matches could favor the Hunters’ Wrecking Ball and Reinhardt playstyle.
