Monument Health unveils new robotic knee system

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Orthopedic surgeons with Monument Health have a new tool joining their arsenal.

Monument recently acquired two ROSA Knee Systems from Zimmer Biomet.

They will be used by surgeons at Monument Health Spearfish Hospital, as well as Monument’s Orthopedic and Specialty Hospital in Rapid City.

The ROSA Knee System combines robotic technology with industry leading implants, assisting surgeons with personalizing procedures for their patients.

“There are sensors that are placed on the knee and a receiver that tracks the position of the patient’s leg that then sends information to the robot,” said Daniel Lochmann, M.D. “So, it’s a real time update. As you move the leg around, the robot adjusts to that.”

Surgeons and their staff are undergoing training on the new robotic system, which is planned to be in use in three to four weeks.
