This Super Bowl season we see that InBev a large multinational company headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, is presenting an ad campaign for their organic Michelob Ultra “beer.” They claim for every 6 pack of their product will support six square feet of organic farm.
Front and center in this ad is our esteemed county commissioner, Joe Healy. We are disappointed to say that drinking this beer likely supports nothing in Yankton or South Dakota. We are disappointed in Joe for selling his image to this foreign-owned company that integrates true corporate farms.
6th Meridian Hop Farm, here in Yankton County, grows hops using as much organic input as possible. Soil Works, here in Yankton, provide the wonderful organic fertilizer for the hops. We spend significantly on our pest management for a healthy environment for our hops and our guests. We donate time to organizations like the South Dakota Specialty Producers, Nebraska Hop Growers Association, and SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education). InBev will never support us.
To support real American farming right here in Yankton, leave that watered-down, corporate “beer” on the shelf and head to Ben’s Brewing, for beer using hops grown in Yankton, with superior flavor and style. Or pick up a six pack from Take 16 Brewery (Luverne, Minnesota) or Crow Peak Brewing (Spearfish), both using hops grown here in Yankton County.
I invite you to support Yankton, not billionaire families in Belgium and Brazil.
