LEC Spring 2020: Week One | Day One Recap

G2 Esports vs MAD Lions

G2 Esports vs MAD Lions Perkz Week one day one lec

G2 Esports (“G2”) beat Mad Lions (“MAD”) on the opening week as the G2 machine starts 2020 as it ended 2019. The game wasn’t complete domination from G2, while the game wasn’t “close,” with G2 picking up three Infernal Drakes and a Baron Buff, a buff which was the catalyst for G2 to storm the mid lane and take the game. Fountain dive and all.

The game started with Mad Lions pushing into the G2 bottom half jungle while Jankos was top side. Jankos got his own back by invading MAD’s blue, stealing it and causing Shadow to burn his flash. Early on, however, MAD did take first blood alongside two more kills to gain an early 1k gold lead. At one point, MAD had a 0-5 kill lead with a near 3k gold lead.

However, the two early drakes which MAD took (Ocean & Cloud) failed to help them capitalize on the lead. At the 15-minute mark, things started to change with G2 picking up a shutdown and two kills in mid. By the 20th minute, G2 had taken the lead as they claimed the first Infernal Drake. It took G2 till the 34th minute to claim victory but victory they did claim. It wasn’t clean, but if this is as bad as it gets, we fear for the rest of the League.

QUICK STATS:

  • Time: 34:15
  • Kills: 21-14
  • Turrets: 8-3
  • Gold: 62k-55.1k
  • Dragons: 3-2
  • Barons: 1-0
  • MVP: Caps

SK Gaming vs Team Vitality

SK Gaming vs Vitality LEC Week One Day One
Note: Team Vitality mid laner Milica was unable to play due to illness and Saken replaced him

SK Gaming (“SK”) beat Team Vitality (“VIT”) on the opening week as SK picked up their first win of the season. The early game was blow-for-blow with the game staying even till around the 20th-minute mark until SK took a 2k gold lead with three tier-one towers in their locker. Just two minutes later though, VIT would win a long-fight in the top lane, pick up two towers and gain their own small lead.

At the 26th minute, VIT started the Baron and with it our first major team fight. VIT took the Baron but lost Saken and Jactroll in return. SK used the two-person advantage to claim the mid-tier-two tower before resetting as VIT respawned. VIT picked up a second Mountain Drake before a fight broke out in the top lane at the 32nd minute as SK caught out Saken in the top lane, VIT replied with a mid tier one tower. A minute later, SK snuck a two-person Baron before heading to the Mountain Drake. In a crazy split team fight, VIT picks up a kill, Mountain and the soul while SK traded one kill in return.

With Baron Buff still active, SK took the bot lane tier two on the 36th minute. They continued to siege with seconds left on the buff before a tight team fight saw zero members from either team fall, despite Cabochard making a nasty flank through the jungle. With the gold equal, the 40th minute would see our next engagement, which again led to no gains for either side with both teams aware that one mistake and the game was over. The fight would finally happen a minute later on the Elder Drake with SK losing two before Trick stole the Elder at the cost of his life. Sadly, he probably stole the wrong buff as VIT moved to Baron with five men still alive they took an easy Baron and a 3k lead.

VIT decided to split push; SK gaming punished the play by taking an inhib, a kill, Elder and Baron. SK would then push the bot lane before sieging the nexus towers, VIT tried to defend, but SK managed to clinch their first victory.

  • Kills: 9-10
  • Turrets: 9-5
  • Gold: 84.9k-84.4k
  • Dragons: 2-4
  • Barons: 2-2

Rogue vs Misfits Gaming

Rogue vs Misfits Gaming LEC Spring 2020 Week One Day One
NOTE: Febiven played Leblanc with the double Senna being a UI error.

Rogue (“RGE”) beat Misfits Gaming (“MSF”) in yet another long LEC game to claim their first victory of the split. RGE picked up the first blood in the bot lane as both junglers moved to gank, MSF did at least take the Infernal Drake. However, RGE picked up the Rift Herald as top and bot lane swapped. The opening 15 minutes were relatively quiet, with MSF taking two drakes while RGE took an early 2k lead after claiming first blood tower and a number of plates thanks to the Rift Herald.

Heading into the mid-20-minute mark RGE tried to pick Febiven in the jungle before the extended fight saw each team pick up a kill apiece after RGE threatened a Baron. At 30 minutes RGE picked up their third Ocean Drake of the game as they slowly started to make use of the 3k gold lead they’ve picked up after Hans Sama picked up another kill. Finally, a fight goes MSF way as they pick up two kills with RGE caught 4v5 with Finn teleporting to the fight too late. In the subsequent Baron fight Larssen makes a clean 1v1 outplay on Febiven before MSF pick up the Baron but lose two more players in the process.

The 35th minute saw a fight break out at Ocean, RGE take down Dan Dan early and pick up their fourth Ocean Drake and claim the soul. With the advantage, they push mid and crack open the MSF base. As we approached the 40th minute, RGE picked up the games second Baron as they looked for a way to end with their 7.5k gold lead. Two minutes later RGE storm the base, pick up four kills and end the game.

Excel Esports vs Schalke 04

Excel Esports (“XL”) beat Schalke 04 (“S04”) in one of the upsets of the day as they take down S04. First blood of the game went to S04 and top laner Odoamne and took a commanding presence in the lane. By 10 minutes S04 had secured a 1k gold lead following XL picking up Rift Herald, like the previous game the top and bot lanes swapped. The 17th minute saw people move top as S04 pick up Rift Herald before some smart play nets XL two kills, Abbedagge has other ideas as he picks up a triple kill. The fight extends as Mickey catches him out but Abbedagge picks up a fourth kill before Expect finally takes him out.

The 24th minute saw our Baron engage and it was a messy one. A huge 5v5 breaks out, with Baron damage, outplays and split fights. Both teams lose four members each and Baron stays alive with the gold lead still 1k in favor of S04. Four minutes later we get our next fight, S04 take the early kill but XL fights back to gain the lead by taking out two of S04’s members.  After the reset XL start the Baron before Gilius steal it and sacrifices his life in return. S04 follow up and take down two more XL members and reset to buy items.

By the 35th minute, we got another huge engage in the mid lane an extended fight sees XL pick up one kill and move to Baron, with Gilius still in the base XL force the fight and pick up another three members losing two in return, with Baron left alive. As we approach the 40th minute XL force a fight and ace S04, push the base and claim the upset victory.

QUICK STATS:

  • Time: 39:47
  • Kills: 20-18
  • Turrets: 7-5
  • Gold: 70.7k-69.2k
  • Dragons: 3-3
  • Barons: 0-1
  • MVP: Patrik

Fnatic vs Origen

Fnatic (“FNC”) BEAT Origen (“OG”) to win the “Match of the Week” and win the battle between these two legendary EU sides. With 11 minutes on the clock, the teams sat even on the Rift with just shy of 18k in the bank and only FNC having taken a plate only the FNC Ocean Drake really separated the sides. It took until the 15th minute for us to get our first blood, followed by our second as OG soaked the FNC bot lane engage and took out Hylissang, while Bwipo dropped in the top lane. The only consolation for FNC was Cloud Drake being picked up.

With Infernal Drake on the map, a fight breaks out in the mid lane with all 10 players involved, someone no one dies in the initial fight. As health pools recover the fight restarts, Xerxe takes the Drake while OG pick up two kills with FNC getting just the one in return. The 27th minute saw FNC sneak a Baron buff while OG was distracted in the infernal pit.

FNC pick a fight in the mid lane at 32 minutes and live, well die, and still regret it as OG take two and grab their third Infernal. OG hesitate around the Baron so FNC head mid to get an inhib, OG decide to actually destroy the FNC top inhib while FNC runs away with tails between their legs and health bars depleted. With time running out FNC goes for another engage, despite a great outplay by Selfmade FNC lose two and get chased into their own jungle, losing another and both Nexus towers while OG picks up another Infernal Drake.

The 42nd minute saw the game end, as two FNC players headed top to take out Alphari who had none of it and took them both out/ This all happened while OG simply took the Nexus.

QUICK STATS:

  • Time: 42:28
  • Kills: 2-15
  • Turrets: 5-10
  • Gold: 64k-74k
  • Dragons: 2-4
  • Barons: 1-1
