KVK Reasi concludes sponsored training programme

REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) concluded two days sponsored training programme on “Commercial Organic Farming” at KVK, Reasi campus which was attended by the progressive farmers from Mantalai area of Udhampur distt.
Two days training programme was sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Udhampur. The programme was organised under the guidance and supervision of Director Extension and hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Dr.K S Risam.
Various technical sessions were organised during this programme. While addressing the farmers, Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal emphasized on the scientific organic crops production to create income and employment among the farmers. He said that with the haphazard use of agro-chemicals our soil health has been adversely affected. He stressed on the eco-friendly methods for crops cultivation and food processing. He further informed the farmers that organically grown crops are healthier than conventionally grown crops. He urged the farmers to fully utilize the knowledge gained during the training programme. He encouraged the farmers by giving the success stories of some organic crops entrepreneurs in the region. He further said that the different organic inputs like organic manures, neem cake, neem oil, castor cake, Panchgavaya, fermented butter milk, Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, cow urine etc. can be used in organic agriculture. He said that advance technologies in organic crops production should be adopted by the farmers. He stressed on the crops rotation and leguminous crops to increase the fertility of soil. He also added that the various diseases, insects-pests and weeds can be managed by the crops rotation, sowing times and organic inputs. He explained the organic inputs preparations like cow urine, Panchgavaya, fermented butter milk etc. to the farmers. He guided the farmers for the use of Farm Yard Manures (FYM), vermicompost, biofertilisers, biofungicides, biopesticides, cow urine, mulching materials etc. in the soil for the commercial organic farming. Dr.Lalit Upadhaya spoke on doubling the farmers’ income. Dr.Sanjay Kaushal stressed on the use of vermicompost which is rich in plant nutrients and suggested the farmers that it should be used to protect the soil health which further will help to produce the healthy crops. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi guided the farmers on scientific nursery preparation for organic farming and explained the organic methods for the control of insects-pests & diseases. Dr. Arvinder Kumar spoke on farm management practices for better results in agriculture.
An exhibition stall was also put up for the participants and extension literature was distributed among them. A special video show on progressive farming was also organised for the farmers. Farmers visited the KVK, Reasi crop cafeteria, poultry unit, mango orchard, KVK farm etc. and they were highly impressed by observing the results of technologies demonstrated at KVK, Reasi. In this training programme the farmers interacted with the scientists and asked various quarries which the KVK scientists answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
