KCR gives priority to agriculture: Puvvada Ajay Kumar

Khammam: Farmers were always the focal point of policy initiatives taken by the State government, asserted Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao gives priority to agriculture and that was why introduced several programmes for the welfare of farmers. Appointment of thousands of agriculture extension officers (AEOs) was one of them.

The AEOs have important role to play. They have to explain cropping patterns and organic farming methods to farmers, the Minister noted while addressing a gathering at Farmers Community Centre, Vutukuru in Kamepalli mandal in the district on Tuesday.

Ajay pointed out that globalisation impacted the farming sector in a negative manner. The farming community has to switch over to natural farming methods and use cow dung and urine as fertilisers which would help to maintain better health of public.

The Minister noted that organic farming was used to be traditional way of farming in the country for generations in the past. It was the time to go back to nature and the farmers should not fall prey to the pesticide and fertiliser manufacturers’ campaign about their products.

“It was a happy development that Telangana has now become the Rice Bowl of India. The weather conditions in Telangana suitable for all kinds of crops. If the farmers follow quality agricultural practices what they produce would be in great demand” he explained.

Earlier on the day Ajay Kumar along with Mayor G Papalal and MLC B Lakshmi Narayana laid foundation stone for development works in several municipal wards in Khammam.

He directed the engineering officials to speed up execution of development works in Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC). Speaking on the occasion he said hundreds of crores of rupees were being spent in modernisation and beautification works.
