Queensland native, Breso, took home $100K USD with his victory at the AO Summer Smash 2020.
Day two of the AO Summer Smash provided something that Fortnite fans have been anticipating for quite a while. This long-awaited LAN tournament was the first of its kind since the Fortnite World Cup. Fortnite was a different game back then, and we are starting to see how dominant controller players can be against their competition. The nearly five-hour broadcast took North American viewers deep into the early hours of the morning. When the tournament drew to a close, we saw yet another first-time LAN player battling through adversity to claim the ultimate Victory Royale.

Breso Claims Victory
This young competitive Fortnite player is undoubtedly one of the lesser-known across all regions. Amongst players like Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish, Shane “EpikWhale” Cotton, Williams “Zayt” Aubin and many others, there was a slew of Oceania talent flying under the radar. The unsponsored Breso is no exception to this. This Queensland native spent the entire tournament lurking inside the top-ten on the leaderboard. Before the competition, Breso sent out a Tweet stating, “Today is the day,” similar to Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf at the Fortnite World Cup. The eventual champion followed this up with another Tweet acknowledging his victory after the tournament.
Clutch Match Six Performance
Breso sat one point beyond fellow Aussie, Looter, as the players loaded into the Battle Bus for the final match. What transpired for Breso will go down in history as one of the smoothest end game performances of all time. Breso bested long-time partner and Australian player, Bola, to earn his sixth elimination in match six. This unbelievable performance earned Breso a total of 52 points, which placed him 15 points ahead of Looter for first place. He compiled four of his six eliminations in the closing moments of the final match. It was indeed an inspiring performance that rightfully put Breso in the victory circle.
Final Leaderboard
After Breso, the leaderboard falls off a bit with 37 points to runner-up, Looter. NA West player and Counter Logic Gaming member, Symetrical, took game one en route to an eventual third-place finish. One-half of the duo Fortnite World Cup winners, Nyhrox, snagged a solid fourth-place finish. Other notable names include TSM ZexRow, who earned his best solo LAN result in his illustrious career. Also in the top 20 were EpikWhale, Benjyfishy and Jaomock, who all started slow and rallied back in the end. Most of the players listed inside the top 20 are outstanding Oceania players.
The six game-winners in order were Symetrical, Looter, Ruri, Westy, Kquid and Breso. It’s worth noting that many of the highly regarded players from North America and Europe failed to earn a single Victory Royale except for Symetrical.
Breso became the first controller player to win a significant LAN tournament in the three-year lifespan of competitive Fortnite. This outstanding performance begs the question of whether or not professional players will genuinely consider making a switch to a controller over mouse and keyboard. Whatever the case ends up being, Breso is now a part of Fortnite history.
