Two of the most prominent esports organizations in Brazil are combining into one. Falkol Esports and Prodigy Esports are merging to become Falkol Prodigy. Both were among the19 known applicants for a Brazilian Championship of League of Legends (CBLoL) franchise and joined forces for a better chance of securing a franchise slot. The new organization will be presented to Riot Games for consideration.
Financial terms of the merger were not disclosed.
Both organizations will combine their administrations, teams, structures, and content production, even investing in a channel named Falkol Prodigy TV. Also, a rebranding project is underway to create a new visual identity. According to the sports news website GE, Prodigy’s CEO Marina Leite will take the lead as the official spokesperson for the project, while Prodigy’s gaming office in São Paulo will be exclusively dedicated to the League of Legends team.
Marina Leite revealed to The Esports Observer that the new organization plans to start operating under a new National Legal Entity Register number (CNPJ, from the acronym in Portuguese) from Jan. 1, 2021: “We are making sure everything is in order until then, to start this new company in which I, [Aristóteles] ‘Toti’ [Azevedo], and Vivian [Bernardo] from Falkol will be business partners.”
Currently, Prodigy Esports (PRG), holds sponsorship contracts with gaming peripherals store ProGaming Store, the esports souvenir store Wayup, and the gaming accessories store DT3sports. Falkol Esports has sponsorship deals with digital marketing software company Tronar and the peripherals producer Redragon.
Leite also revealed to TEO that, for now, only ProGaming Mega Store is confirmed as a Falkol Prodigy sponsor, with a two-year contract covering 2021-2022. Other sponsors are still in negotiations, “including non-endemic brands,” she said. All the current contracts mentioned previously, for both Prodigy and Falkol, end this year.
Riot plans to announce the participants of the CBLoL franchise on Oct. 25. There are 18 known applicants now, but it is expected that only 10 of them will get a spot. Besides League of Legends, Falkol Prodigy will also invest in Rainbow Six: Siege, VALORANT, Fortnite, Free Fire, CS:GO, and EA SPORTS FIFA 20 teams.
