Immortals Gaming Club Exploring Sale of Overwatch League Team – The Esports Observer|home of essential esports business news and insights

Immortals Gaming Club is currently exploring a potential sale of its Overwatch League franchise, Los Angeles Valiant, according to a report by Bloomberg. IGC was one of the founding organizations to invest in the OWL, after which it also purchased spots in the Call of Duty League and LCS. The company also sold off the OpTic Gaming brand, which it had consolidated entirely around its CDL franchise, to Hector Rodriguez, NRG Co-CEO and former face of OpTic.

If a sale goes through, IGC will have exited the Activision Blizzard esports ecosystem entirely, having sold its CDL slot to 100 Thieves earlier this month. According to the report, IGC is looking to reduce its focus on city-based teams in favor of its “businesses related to online gaming,” such as the platform Gamers Club which the company acquired last year.

IGC declined to comment on this report.

Both Activision Blizzard esports leagues felt the sting of the COVID-19 pandemic more than most esports operations this year as their plan to roll out a full home event schedule was halted in March. Activision Blizzard offered financial help to team owners earlier in the year by extending franchise fee payment terms and accelerating revenue share payments.
