Comcast plans to permanently lay off 127 workers from its California headquarters in Livermore, effective May 1.
“We are making some changes to our technical operations and supply chain processes,” the telecommunications giant said in a statement. “This includes consolidating some job functions and locations and also automating some processes so our technicians can best serve our customers.”
Comcast said the Livermore facility would remain its regional headquarters for California, but in a letter to state and local officials it said it was closing its Technician Logistics Services department at the headquarters. The company said in the letter it would “relocate and centralize” the department — which supports Comcast workers in the field — to other locations, primarily in Denver.
The layoffs will fall hardest on the “universal agents” charged with supporting the field staff, with 111 of them to lose their employment, according to the letter, which also said some workers will likely not be placed in new jobs within the firm.
“We will work with all impacted employees to evaluate their options, including helping them to find other positions within the company or providing outplacement assistance and severance,” Comcast said.
