It has been sometime since Rebellion released details about its next virtual reality (VR) title, Sniper Elite VR. Teaming up with Coatsink and Just Add Water on the production, for Facebook Connect they’ve revealed a big surprise, the videogame will support Oculus Quest.
Rebellion had previously confirmed support for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR – Sniper Elite VR was demoed on the latter headset in 2019 – but as is the way in VR currently, Oculus Quest’s popularity has ensured it also gets a version.
Sniper Elite VR keeps all the hallmarks of the franchise whilst offering you a first-person VR view of all the action. The single-player, story-driven campaign takes you to Italy during World War 2, set prior to the events of Sniper Elite 4. The brand new campaign will see you helping the Italian resistance to rid Sicily of the Nazi U-boat menace, taking on missions across brand new Italian maps.
You’ll have access to an array of authentic World War 2 weaponry including sub-machine guns, pistols and of course, sniper rifles. You’ll be given complete free movement to tackle environments however you wish, plus what would a Sniper Elite videogame be without the infamous X-ray kill camera giving you a visceral look at your best shots.
Currently, there’s been no confirmation as to when Sniper Elite VR is to be expected, just the usual ‘coming soon’. Still, it’s good to see a new trailer showcasing the action across a range of scenarios, both in the thick of it and from the traditional sniper vantage point.
With Oculus Quest 2 just announced the end of 2020 is going to be a big one for Facebook and the Oculus brand. Facebook Connect is a one day only event with John Carmack’s “Carmack Unscripted” annual talk still to come and much more. As further announcements are made, VRFocus will let you know.
