Today PUBG Corp. announced details on the PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) Global Series (PGS), including the first three tour stops and the grand finals dates, along with the amount of prize money that will be awarded in 2020. Over $3.5M USD has been allocated for the PGS, including the grand finals ($2M), with each participating team being guaranteed a minimum payout of $20K for the first three events.
The first of four PUBG esports events, PGS: Berlin, will take place at Messe Berlin from March 31 – April 12. PGS: Berlin’s Group Stage will take place on March 31 – April 3, followed by the Elimination Stage on April 4 – 5, before culminating at the Grand Finals on April 10 – 12.
Last season saw more than $6M USD in prize pool winnings paid out, which was a combination of money from the league and partially through crowdfunding efforts. According to today’s release, $500K will be allotted for each of the PGS stops in 2020 and a prize pool that will guarantee a minimum of $20K for each team. The grand finals will see a prize pool award of $2M. Additionally, a Pick’Em Challenge crowdfunding initiative will continue with event items, with 25% of all in-game item sales being distributed to pro teams through various methods.
PUBG Corp. hinted last December that it would be adding events and more revenue sharing, and today’s announcement confirms the event structure. Players and teams can expect to see more than just prize pool money as in-game items will be used to create additional revenue streams.
