The federal robotic process automation community of practice has published a “playbook” for agencies “designed to provide federal agencies detailed, accessible guidance for initiating a new RPA program or rapidly evolving an existing program,” in its words.
“The opportunity for RPA to transform federal operations is massive. Current RPA programs operating within agencies are achieving roughly five hours of workload elimination per employee. If the government deployed RPA at scale and achieved only 20 hours of workload elimination per employee, the net capacity gained would be worth $3 billion—and that is only scratching the surface,” it says.
However, more collaboration is needed among agencies, which have been “wrestling with common implementation challenges in a vacuum.”
The playbook (at https://digital.gov/communities/rpa/) describes RPA and its potential uses, and covers topics including initial planning, collaboration between the program and the CIO’s office, establishing goals, assessment, and selecting the most suitable technology.
