And luckily for Till and her partners, Lenny Varvaro, local business owner, and Beth Senay, a healthcare executive, that day has arrived. Their new non-profit organization, A Meaningful Purpose, acquired the property to fulfill their collective vision of a non-profit that focuses on ‘Healthy Soil – Healthy Food – Healthy People.’

The revamped, 78-acre property, which has not grown produce for public sale since late 2014, is now the site of the new Reed’s Organic Farm. The farm will be run by the non-profit. The new Reed’s will focus on organic, sustainable farming, providing a sanctuary for farm animals, and eventually training and providing employment opportunities for the developmentally disabled, veterans, as well as inner-city and disadvantaged youth.

The farm has grown tremendously in the past few months with the recent hires of Kacie Buczynski, Farm Director, and Melanie Reed, Program Director, and Farmer. Kacie and Melanie are joining Farm Manager, Brian DeRias, to help guide the crop planning, planting process, farm programs, and will be the lead frontier farmers. Each have extensive knowledge in the world of agriculture and the use of sustainable, organic farming methods and has already started working on programs, and building out new crop fields.

‘I’ve always loved this farm. It’s a special place. For me, so much of my life has been about food, and nourishing people through the restaurant or my work with my other non-profit, A Work in Progress– an organization focused on the development and maintenance of urban gardens and teaching children the importance of nutrition. So, when Lenny and Beth contacted me about the idea to buy a farm, I was immediately on board. It’s so exciting to finally see it taking shape,’ said Till.
