PUBG Corporation will host an eight-week esports festival event called the PUBG GLOBAL INVITATIONAL.S (PGI.S) in South Korea. The PUBG event will take place from Feb. 2 to March 28, 2021, and features a $3.5M USD total prize pool.
PGI.S will feature 32 global teams from South Korea, North America, Europe, Latin America, China, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Chinese Taipei. PUBG Corp emphasized that this will be an in-person event that “will fully adhere to government guidelines” and will also apply its own “strengthened safety measures,” including a two week quarantine period built into player and staff schedules.
Teams will compete in 16 weekly “Survival” matches, earning prize money and a spot in the weekly “Final” matches. The 10 matches played per Final will feature a larger amount of prize money given out based on performance. At the end of PGI.S, the team with the most prize money will be crowned Global Champions.
The event will also see the return of the Pick’Em Challenge, which has been upgraded to feature an increased 30% revenue share. More details on the tournament format will be released closer to the event.
The Esports Observer has reached out to PUBG Corp for more information on where the event will be hosted and whether a live audience will be permitted to attend.
