The eight invited teams will kick-off the competition on November 6, split into two groups of four. The two groups will compete in a round-robin format on the first day, with the top two in each group advancing to a double elimination knockout format.

The tournament’s main broadcast will be run via Go Next Media‘s Josh ‘Swifty’ Swift, with community casters able to run secondary streams to cover all games.

Prize distribution will see AU $6,000 (~£3,288) and five Intel gaming PCs awarded to the winner, with $3000 and $1000 going to second and third place respectively.

On the tournament, Nick Bobir, CEO of The Chiefs commented that organisation has “wanted to run a VALORANT event for months now and are excited to finally unveil our efforts.

“Further building on our commitment to community events that we’ve established with the Men Expert Warzone Challenge tournaments; we decided this was a great way to support a new esports title and in particular one that we hope to soon be involved in more directly. We’ll be watching very closely for a team that we may want to recruit going into 2021.”

Esports Insider says: The tournament is a great move for Oceania VALORANT and The Chiefs. It gives players an opportunity to show their worth and give The Chiefs a great overview of the talent pool in the region. In light of the closure of the OPL, the organisation will certainly be looking at where it should invest its time and resources next.
