Take the 2021 Ford F-150 Anywhere With Augmented Reality Tour

Many people are anxiously awaiting for the arrival of the 2021 Ford F-150. The first F-150s of this 14th generation are in production now and should arrive at car lots later this season. But if your curiosity is getting the best of you and you want to take a closer look, there’s a website that allows that.

The website F150inyourdriveway allows you, through the wonders of augmented reality, to take an up close look at the 2021 F-150. The website also allows you to take a very close look at the interior of the new F-150. Personally, I’m very interested in the touch points and what the interior of the 2021 F-150 will look and feel like.

My curiosity is high, so I jumped on the website and took a look.

The Interior of the 2021 F-150
One of the best features of the website is the 360-degree view of the interior of the 2021 Ford F-150. While the outside has been seen in every iteration, I’m all about interior comforts, especially with trucks. And typically, the Ford F-150 has led the way with luxurious and high-quality interiors.

So, needless to say, I wanted to twirl around the interior and this website afforded me that. It’s certainly not as good as sitting in it, but my seat time will come sooner rather than later. And you can be sure, I’ll have it covered here at Torque News when that happens.

For now, I used the zoom in feature to get a closer look at the infotainment screen. The 2021 Ford F-150 has Ford’s new Sync4 system and I’m really intrigued by all it can and will do. Sync 3 was infinitely better than the previous iterations, so if Sync 4 is even better than Sync 3, then I will be thrilled.

The 12-inch display looked big. I wasn’t surprised by how dominant it was in the center stack. I have seen a large display like this before the 2020 Ford Explorer. I don’t mind it. And the colorful interactive screen seems modern and definitely gives a fresh look to the F-150’s interior.

Ford says that the landscape-oriented display will allow for split screen app or feature viewing. In my virtual tour, I could even see that split screen set up with the audio/radio being on three quarters of the screen and the F-150’s Pro On-Board Generator power display showing on the other quarter part of the screen.

Just seeing that was pretty cool, so you can see the life and power available on one of the coolest new features of the 2021 F-150, which is the On-Board Generator. I recently wrote about the potential for this generator to extend the range of the upcoming 2022 all-electric F-150. I’m certainly intrigued and interested to learn more about this feature.

This virtual F-150 did not seem to give any view of the new interior work surface feature which for me is one of my top five favorite new things about this truck. It is a flat, deployable surface that swivels and extends for a laptop and is available in both bench and captain’s seat configurations from XL to Limited. It’s disappointing that this virtual tour didn’t offer a better view/highlight of this new and exciting feature.

A quick turn upward was like looking overhead, where I see a panoramic sunroof in the 2021 F-150. I love glass roofs and open air driving, so this is another small, but nice feature available for the new F-150.

Overall, the interior looks fresh, new and updated. Ford says the 2021 F-150’s cabin is completely redesigned with more comfort, technology and functionality for truck customers along with more premium materials, more color choices and more storage. In my virtual tour, I noticed some nice looking materials.

Until I can touch it and feel it with my own hand, this will have to do.

Augmented Reality Used For 2021 Ford F-150
Speaking of my own hand, I used the augmented reality (AR) feature on the website to shrink the 2021 F-150 and put it in my hand (photo above). Is this gimmicky? Yes it is. But it was fun to play around with this feature, which allows you to put the F-150 virtually anywhere.

I even placed the beautiful red F-150 in my office right before I began writing this as inspiration. I saw on Twitter, where people used the #F150anywhere hash tag and placed an F-150 in their living room. See photo below.

This AR feature is nice and fun and kind of silly. It does require scanning the QR code on the website with your smartphone (doesn’t work on your laptop or computer). But it’s fun little virtual adventure for the F-150, again until it is available in person.

The order book is open on Ford’s website and you can certainly visit a Ford dealership to place your 2021 F-150 order. I wrote a while ago about how I built two different F-150s with two vastly different price tags using Ford’s ordering matrix. That, like this website, was fun.

2021 F-150 Coming To A City Near You
Well maybe not “near you” but if you’re fortunate enough to live in or near one of the seven southwest cities where the F-150 tour is underway, you can get up close with the pickup truck.

“We’re visiting select cities across the U.S. inviting you to experience the all-new F-150 before it hits dealerships,” a Ford statement read.

The current cities available as part of this tour include: Austin, El Paso, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Lubbock and Phoenix. Come on Ford, let’s not forget about the rest of the country especially those of us in the Midwest, who are just as truck obsessed.

As part of this tour, there’s a sweepstakes to win a 2021 F-150. You don’t have to be part of the city in-person tour event to apply and qualify. There’s a link here to complete the form and be registered to win.
