Pleasant Stay At Royal Savoy Lausanne

The selection of five-star hotels in Lausanne is quite large. Almost 10 years after my visit at Beau-Rivage Palace, this time I decided to go for a hotel at good distance from the lake and the old city. And here is the Royal Savoy Lausanne, a stunning castle hotel with beautiful lake views and a gorgeous modern Spa.

Few steps from the main train station and 10-minute walking distance from Geneva Lake is settled the Royal Savoy Lausanne, a five-star hotel fully renovated in 2015 by MKV Design. It consists in a neoclassical Chateau building connected with a contemporary one, hosting the Spa.

Main building

While location is not exclusive, what happens inside definitely is. Elegant people, businessmen, fashionistas meet at La Brasserie du Royal or the Skylounge. The place to be for local cool cats and chic travelers.

Common areas

The castle has a neoclassical interior design mixed with some Art Déco touches. The overall is pure, trendy and quite fancy. As for the atmosphere. I especially liked the lobby’s high ceiling and its luxurious furniture for instance.

Lobby

Also in the main building, the Skylounge worth the visit. On top of the castle, this tapas bar offers unparalleled views over the old town on one side, and on the lake on the other side. A 360° view pretty amazing. Be careful, it’s very busy in the evening even during week days!

Indoor pool

The contemporary building hosts a 1,500sqm Spa in its basement, with indoor and outdoor heated pools. The terrace deck is just gorgeous! The Spa also features a rather small gym area with basic – but enough – Technogym equipment.

Room

We stayed in a Deluxe Room with Lake View, on 4th floor in the original building. A decent size and a truly breathtaking view: from there you can see all downtown, the lake and surrounding mountains.

Deluxe Room with Lake View – Balcony

Room design is a bit darker than the rest of the hotel, but furniture and finishing keep the same quality. Bathroom proposes luxurious Bvlgari amenities, that’s a nice touch. Then room is very quiet at night, despite the Skylounge located 2 floors above.

Deluxe Room with Lake View – Bedroom

For a better experience I would recommend to ask for a lake view room on 5th floor and if you can afford it, a Junior Suite category. Its size will be more comfortable than a Deluxe or even a Premium Room.

Dining

We only enjoyed breakfast at Royal Savoy Lausanne, which takes place at La Brasserie du Royal on ground floor. Due to COVID-19, no menu is given so you can request whatever you want and the waiter will tell you if that’s available or not.. Not very convenient but the circumstances are unusual as well.

Service Quality

While we have not been impressed by Spa attendants nor by restaurant service, I have to say that Front Desk staff were super efficient. They proactively waived some parking fees after a hot water issue we had on our second night. Very professional and customer-oriented.

Conclusion

The Royal Savoy Lausanne offers good services and five-star standards. His strengths are its convenient city location and its lake views. It is good value for money but do not expect too much, especially if you are looking for exclusiveness and high service quality.
