How to properly protect strawberry crops from the moment they are transplanted

The days immediately after transplanting a strawberry plant are a key moment that will determine its growth and health during the rest of its life cycle. In those first days, the plant is fragile and needs to be protected from soil pathogens such as Fusarium, Sclerotinia, Rhizoctonia or Phytium, which transmit diseases and can cause serious production losses. The first application of TRIANUM® should be carried out about ten days after the plant has been transplanted with a dose of 1 kg / ha.

In order to properly protect strawberries from the moment they are transplanted, Koppert recommends the application of the biological fungicide TRIANUM®, which contains a hybrid strain of the fungus Trichoderma harzianum, whose main characteristic is that it adapts quickly to all types of soils. The strain containing TRIANUM® grows in a wide range of temperatures between 8 °C and 34 °C and in soils with a pH between 4 and 8.5. This biological fungicide from KOPPERT is 100% natural, does not generate residues, does not require a safety period and is authorized for use in organic farming.

Protective shield
After application, the beneficial fungus present in TRIANUM® colonizes the plant’s roots and quickly builds a protective shield that performs a dual function: firstly, the fungus substantially improves the plant’s ability to absorb nutrients, while also boosting the development of the root system. Secondly, the fungus feeds on soil pathogens that try to get close to the root, effectively protecting the plant from the risk of disease.

For all these reasons, Koppert recommends that first treatment with the biological fungicide TRIANUM® to be carried out throughout the month of October, just after the transplants, with a clearly preventive objective. In recent years, excellent results have been obtained in the area of the Spanish province of Huelva, since in most cases, the application of TRIANUM® prevents the need of treatments against diseases. Also, by improving the plant’s health, there is also an increase in the production and quality of the fruit.
