French Esports Team MCES and CORUM L’Épargne Partner for Virtual Regatta

France-based esports organization MCES has teamed up with asset management company CORUM L’Épargne to compete in online sailing competition title Virtual Regatta. The virtual boat CORUM L’Épargne is competing in an online version of the Vendée Globe race, mirroring the one participating in the traditional race which also bears the company’s name. The race began on Monday.

Four months ago, MCES launched its Virtual Regatta team. Its current five-person roster will be joined by another five players to complete a team of 10 for what has been dubbed the CORUM MCES Savings team.

Virtual Regatta is an online, browser-based sailing race simulator. The publisher has hosted races for over a decade, operates the eSailing World Championship beginning in 2018, and hosts a number of races throughout the year. Many of these races including the Vendée Globe are held in partnership with notable real-world sailing races. The first virtual Vendée Globe had over 340K participants, and sailing site Click&Boat projected this year’s total to possibly reach 1M.

Virtual Regatta Offshore has 1.5M registered players.
